In
fact for the naturalists, Himachal Pradesh is a virtual
paradise . The regions of Marrhi near Rohtang, Sisu in Lahaul,
Sansa on the Lahaul - Chamba trek and Dhundi near Manali
are very rich with alpine flowers from end June to mid September.
Some of the rare and pretty ones are Saxifraga, Cobra-plant,Asters,
Primula and the Wild Rose. Apart from this colorful alpine
heritage the vegetation of Himachal is as varied as its
latitude. The sub-tropical vegetation with Kail, Bhabhar
abd Sheesham is totally different to outer Shivalik vegetation
comprising Sal, Silk cotton, Chir-pine and Bamboos.
Likewise,
while the outer Himalayas are replete with Oaks, Deodar,
and Rhododendrons, the Inner Himalayas are vegetated with
Silverfire, Maple, Horse chestnuts, Texus and Betulas.
Walking through the pine forests by itself gives a feeling
of adventure and thrill to the visitors to Himachal Pradesh.
The fauna is typically Himalayan like Himalayan Ibex, Himalayan
Thar, Bharal, Serow, Himalayan Brown Bear, Musk Deer, Himalayan
Black Bear, Goral, Barking Deer, Leopard and amongst birds,
Monal, Tragopan, Chir Pheasants, Kokila, Kalij and Red Junglr
Fowl always give a surprise by thier sudden appearance before
tourists.
