| Narkanda
: |
|
| Halfway between Shimla and
Rampur, Narkanda is a popular place for hiking. Hattu
peak is only six Kms. from this place. It is 64 Kms.
from Shimla. |

Rampur : |
|
| Descending to the banks of
the Sutlej upto 1005 metres and travelling north-eastward,
the road leads to Rampur, Sarahan and Kalpa. The Sutlej
is crossed by the Dhauladhar above Rampur, 136 km from
Shimla and located on the banks of the river. The terraces
in the Sutlej valley are developed around Rampur, where
numerous villages are located. An important sub-divisional
town, Rampur has a market for local produce and is one
of the biggest commercial town of Himachal Pradesh.
Rampur was once the capital of the erstwhile Himalayan
Kingdom of Rampur Bushehar. This is one of the biggest
commercial towns of Himachal Pradesh and the venue of
the biggest trade fairs of Northern India known as 'LAVI',
which takes place in the second week of November. |
| Sarahan : |

| Former capital of Bushahr
Empire, Sarahan is a wonderful little village in a beautiful
region of Deodar forest.There are spectacular views
and trekking opportunities to nearby villages such as
Ranwin and Bashal peak. A fine example of Hindu – Budhist
architecture is seen at historical Bhimakali temple.
Beyond Sarahan, lies Kalpa, the last big village on
the Indo – Tibett road. This region is best for trekking.

| Sangla: |

| Sangla Valley, also known
as Baspa Valley, is by far the most beautiful valley
of Kinnaur. It starts from Karchham where the Baspa
river, coming from the east, joins the Sutlej. The road
for Baspa valley branches off from Hindustan - Tibet
road at the river junction and after turning south,
crosses the Sutlej over a bridge to reach Karchham.
The road then veers south-east to arrive at Chitkul
via Sangla. Sangla situated at an elevation of 2680
metres is also the Tehsil Headquarter with a small population. |
| Kalpa: |

| Kalpa (altitude of 260 M)
the district headquarters is situated at a distance
of 260 km from Shimla and 51 km from Sangla. Two Kilometer
away from Powari on the Hinduastan Tibet Road, towards
left side, wide link road leads to Recong Peo and then
to Kalpa. Kalpa is surrounded by vineyards, which are
protected from the ranges of bears by large sheep dogs
especially trained for the purpose. There is a temple
dedicated to Narenas god. The visitors can buy Kinnauri
shawls and caps from Handicrafts Emporium at Kalpa.
Kalpa has earned its name because of good quality Chilgoza,
which go in abundance. Powari is 7km down to National
Highway from Recong Peo. |

Kaza:
|
|
| Kaza is the sub-Divisional
Headquarters of Spiti sub-division, which was sometime
back the Headquarters of the Nono, Chief of Spiti. It
is known for its asbestos mines, which owing to lack
of transport facilities, has since been abandoned. Situated
at the foot of steep ridges, on the left bank of river
Spiti on National Highway is Tehsil of Spiti valley.
Ki-Monastery is visible right from the road. It is really
fantastic view. |
